Since I love this mario-meets-portal game, I'd like to spread it among the gaming world. I was thinking about something : would a "Pay what you want" action will benefit to Grappling Hook ? Similars offers have been tried lately by indies, with some success :
- World Of Goo, with a huge success (83 250 copy sold for an average price of 2,03€, aoutch) http://2dboy.com/2009/10/26/pay-what-you-want-birthday-sale-wrap-up/ - Caster, which I just bought for 5$ (its normal price), a funny 3D action shooter. By buying it, you'll get all the coming episodes for free (http://www.elecorn.com/caster3d/index.html) - Sleep Is Death, another german original creation. Note that the "Name your price" operation comes with a minimum of 1,75 to cover payment processing fees and download bandwidth. (http://sleepisdeath.net) - The Lunar Pack, which contains two games by BossBaddie (http://satansam.co.uk/bossbaddie) - not to mention the humble indie Pack, which raised more than 1 200 000$ shared between 3 charities and the 5 developpers of the given games. http://www.wolfire.com/humble
What is better ? To sold a hundred copies at 12€ or 2000 copies at 5€ ? Of course, there is always the risk to get a very small price for the game, but you could put a minimum as it was done for Sleep Is Death to prevent that For example, 5€ would be correct, I think, but also, by doing this, you'll loose the "support some indie games by fixing yourself a correct price"...
With some communication and a bit of buzzing among forums (which I could highly contribute), you could gain a bit of success.
Hello. I love Grappling Hook. I wonder : will you make it avalaible on online stores like steam or Direct2Drive ? By doing so, you will be able to sell lot more copies and enlarge your p...ublic ;-)
